Right now the Grand River is running lower and colder than normal. Here’s the latest from the frontlines on the Grand River and its tributaries.
Morning river temperates on the Grand have been in the mid to upper 50’s with mid day temps in the low 60’s. Patience is key right now and you need to keep your head in the game to find success.
The bass are in various stages of the spawn. We’re still landing some pre-spawn smallmouth but that that is quickly coming to an end and post-spawn fish are slowly showing up in their more traditional haunts. Because these fish are in various stages, we’ve been covering a lot of water to get on them.
We’ve been doing well on streamers in chartreuse, white, orange and yellow. We’re also finding success on smaller crayfish patterns.
Our line of choice has been Scientific Anglers Tropical Clear. This tends to stick less when the air temp is 60 degrees or higher.
The topwater bite is also starting to pick up and should become more consistent as the water gets warmer. We have been landing some on Zudbubblers and frogs.
