Continue to fish for bass and save a trout....

July 29, 2025

The heat and humidity continues on in West Michigan. Water temps are in the mid to upper 70's, with at times in the low 80's. River levels are low to near normal for this time of year.

With all this heat and humidity, the smallmouth fishing has been steady. Depending on the day, we are seeing everything from slow, to bite windows, to fast and furious.

Poppers, terrestrials and streamers are all producing right now, so you'll want to make sure you have a mixed bag of bugs in your fly box. Fish the weed lines, both outer lines and the line between the weeds and the bank, shelf lines and rocks for the best results.

If you're going to fish for trout, be ethical and watch your water temps. We've heard reports of trout mortality on the Rouge and the Coldwater. Ideally, fish for them when the temp is below 65 degrees and right now, many of the area river are well above that.

The shop is fully stocked with everything you need for the mid-summer bite and we have guides available to book, so swing on by to get locked in.

We use them exclusively for West Michigan river fishing and do so several times each year.
