Stable Weather Pattern

July 10, 2026

We finally have a stable weather pattern and that has kicked the smallmouth into overdrive on the Grand. We're fishing topwater, along and over weedlines, dead drifting poppers and terrestrials. Best popper colors have been black and blue and the best terrestrials have been Maddin's Scorpion in black and blue colors as well.

We've been having some success on baitfish patterns, such as CJ's Party Crasher and The EP Fiber Minnow by our local tier, Fulltrouser Flies. These flies are neutrally buoyant and fish well along the weedlines paired with Rio's Warmwater Predator Float/Hover/Intermediate line.

If you want the latest on what's happening on the Grand, it's tributaries or the Muskegon, give the shop a call.

I have been fishing many, many years. I have hired many guides in many different places. There are a few guides that rise to the top. Tom Werkman is one of those guides. I got onto his Stealthcraft inflatable and spent 8 hours with a man I had never met. You never know. Well, I would like to say that Tom gave me one of the best float trips I have done. Tom is hard working, great conversationalist, easy going and great at giving little tips on technique. If you want a great day on the water, book a trip with Werkman Outfitters.
