Time To Play The Game

April 29, 2025

It's game time on the warmwater side. With water temps consistently in the upper 50's to low 60's, depending on the day, pike and smallmouth are in full gear. Everything is in play. From leech patterns to leggy bois, these fish are chasing and the eats are visual.

Our gear right now is a Sage 7wt Foundation, paired with a Spectrum 7/8 reel. Lines are either SA I/2/3 or Rio's F/H/I or F/H/S3. We're building our own leader using Seaguar Fluorocarbon down to 12#.

The Grand has come down nicely and is in great shape, we'll see what Thursday holds which, as of this report, we are projected to get an inch of rain along the I-96 corridor.

If you want to know the latest river conditions or what's working on the river, give the shop a call or swing on by. We're the only shop in West Michigan that has a full time guide staff that can give you the latest reports to help you be successful on the river.

Our mission is connecting people to the rivers we fish, while teaching them the value of our fisheries, one trip, one river and one cast at a time.

I have been fishing many, many years. I have hired many guides in many different places. There are a few guides that rise to the top. Tom Werkman is one of those guides. I got onto his Stealthcraft inflatable and spent 8 hours with a man I had never met. You never know. Well, I would like to say that Tom gave me one of the best float trips I have done. Tom is hard working, great conversationalist, easy going and great at giving little tips on technique. If you want a great day on the water, book a trip with Werkman Outfitters.
